August 2002
More sales, and the Great Disappearing Trailer Nightmare

Elly continues to badger a mass of unis while Guy ‘suns’ himself in a flood prone Europe. She makes great headway and a number of student cinemas agree to show the film.

Hamish Gibson reappears after some length of silence to announce that he might have us a video/DVD deal and most importantly they are offering us an advance. It’s the best news for a long time.

But there is more bad news around the corner. Showcase has lost five of our 35mm trailers, sending them off to it’s not quite sure where. As we only have eight trailers and now have no money at all for replacements, this could prove a serious pisser.

Daisy at sales agent Capitol Films sums up our sales problem:

Dear Guy,
I had a look at
Living In Hope finally. I really enjoyed it, I intended to just watch the first twenty minutes to see if it was for us, and ended up watching the whole thing. That said, however, it is not for us.

The film's great, but it's very English in its appeal and I am not convinced that it is theatrical. In any case you need a sales agent who will really push it, and we are generally selling larger films so would not give
Living In Hope the attention you would like.

I wish you best of luck with the film,
Kind regards,
Daisy Allso

In mid August we finally get some news that might turn out to be just what we’re after. It looks, thanks to the most excellent Hamish, like we might have a DVD deal, with a small advance and a percentage. There’s also talk of a foreign rights deal and sales in the US. As with all of these things they may all go to nothing. There are some serious fingers being crossed. top
